The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-2 on the young season after their Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns. They got their two wins by a combined total of seven points, while each of their two losses came by double digits. They were outscored by 19 points and outgained by 222 yards through four games.
The Raiders offense has mostly struggled, managing just 24th in yards and 19th in points so far. The running game has been brutal with the exception of this past Sunday against Cleveland, but the passing game hasn’t been much better. And because that passing game struggles, and because he’s one of the best receivers in football, Davante Adams constantly has his name raised in trade speculation.
According to to the Las Vegas Magazine Magazinethe raiders are increasingly open to dealing with Adams and have begun to call teams to evaluate interest in their services. Adams, according to NFL Mediacame to the Las Vegas front office on Tuesday and said he preferred to be traded. NFL Media also reports no deal is imminent, but it remains a situation to watch.
This information now gives the Raiders a month and three days from now until the November 5 NFL trade deadline to work to find the best deal for all parties involved.
Adams has 18 catches on 27 targets this season, totaling 209 yards and a touchdown. (He missed Week 4 with a hamstring injury and is considered week to week.) He is 32 years old and in the final guaranteed season of his contract; his base salaries of $35.64 million and $36.64 million for the 2025 and 2026 seasons are completely non-guaranteed. With the Raiders looking like they won’t be as competitive, it makes sense that his name would come up. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
“It gets annoying for sure,” Adams said during an appearance on the “Up & Adams” podcast on Tuesday.
“I’m one of those players that people like to talk about one way or another. So, thank God that he just blessed me with the ability to just focus on what I need to focus on and not be distracted by any of the outside noise.”
It is lots of teams out there that need to get help — including division rival in the Kansas City Chiefs, who have already lost Marquise Brown for the season and could be without Rashee Rice long term as well. Adams’ $16.89 million base salary for this season makes him an affordable trade target, and any team that acquires him could redo their deal to give him more guaranteed money but drop the base salaries in future years. Based on his skills, Adams figures to be highly sought after if the Raiders ever make him available.
