Sacramento Kings forward Trey Lyles suffered a left groin injury during offseason training, the team announced Friday. He will be reevaluated in three weeks, clearing him from Sacramento’s training camp that begins Tuesday.
He will also sit the team’s five preseason games between Oct. 9 and Oct. 17, and his status for the season opener on Oct. 24 against the Minnesota Timberwolves could also be in jeopardy. .
Last season, Lyles sat out the first 13 regular-season games for Sacramento after sustaining a left calf in a preseason game. He sat out another two weeks in March with a sprained MCL in his left knee. He lasted a total of 24 games last season.
Averaging 7.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20 minutes per game, Lyles has become an integral part of Sacramento’s bench corps, especially when it comes to guarding opponents with more size.
