The Knicks relinquish custody Landry Shametahead TJ Warrenand forward Chuma Okekethe team announced Saturday.
Shamet suffered a shoulder injury in Tuesday’s preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets, which the team said they are still evaluating.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Knicks will look to bring back Shamet once he recovers.
“Because he was in an Exhibit 9 deal, Knicks owe Landry Shamet $15K of his $2.08M salary after waiving him.” according to SNY’s Ian Begley. “Shamet’s salary is being reduced by $15K per day, so the Knicks can re-sign him at a lower number during the season and create more space under the second apron if it chooses to go that route.”
Begley reported Friday there was internal optimism among the Knicks that Shamet would not need surgery after dislocating his right shoulder and he was expected to be reevaluated at a later date.
With Shamet’s situation still unclear, the Knicks had no cap space under the second apron for Warren, who had supporters among Knicks coaches and the front office to make the roster.
According to BegleyWarren will join Westchester, and “he will probably be in the mix to rejoin the Knicks during the season.”
The Knicks tip off the 2024-25 regular season on Tuesday, October 22 against the Boston Celtics.
