USA: With Varas only as caretaker manager, this squad can’t look too far ahead, but it’s something they’re now used to. Winning the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League under interim manager BJ Callaghan and also screening the 2023 Gold Cup under Anthony Hudson, the USMNT has spent more time in the last two years under an interim manager than a permanent one. Although that will soon be over, players know the expectation is to win as Pochettino will be watching.
Canada: Following the success of the Copa America, now is the time for the Canadians to show that their approach is sustainable. Considering the two sides, they are more stable than the USMNT but it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t turn into wins. To become the top team in Concacaf, Canada must be able to consistently beat the United States and Mexico, which is a clear goal of this international window.
