The Pro Football Hall of Fame is getting closer to knocking on the door of a select few and welcoming them to immortality. On Wednesday, the Hall announced that it had whittled down its list of prospective candidates for the Class of 2025 to 25 modern-day playing semifinalists. That group includes six former players in their first year of eligibility and also has 17 players who were semifinalists for the Class of 2024.

Kuechly, Manning, Suggs, Thomas, Vinatieri and Yanda are the six players who were named semifinalists in their first year of eligibility, with each playing their final game in 2019. That group was reduced from an initial group of 167 candidates that were announced back in September. There is no set number for a given Hall of Fame class, but the bylaws stipulate that between four and eight new members will be elected. They will be unveiled as the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 at this year’s “NFL Honors” in New Orleans.
